Connections
Because
it uses basic IP addressing, Solstice gives you the flexibility
to synchronize wherever and however you want. As long as a tcp/ip
connection can be established between the handheld device and the
host computer, Solstice can synchronize1.
The possibilities include:
Direct via cradle/usb cable
Nothing fancy here. Just connect and sync.
Cradling to a second computer that establishes
the connection via LAN or internet.
No need to have QuickBooks on every computer. Cradle
the handheld to any computer on the same network or even just
one that can establish an internet connection.
Solstice will "go through" the second computer to find the host computer.
- Sync from home over the home computer's internet connection
(even a dial-up connection).
- Sync from any computer in the office without disturbing
the bookkeeper.
WiFi LAN2
If you have a wireless network, you can sync from
anywhere within the range of the network.
- Driving by the office? Just park in front and sync from
the truck.
WiFi Connection to internet2
Use any WiFi hotspot to sync.
- Stop in at the local coffee shop and use their network
to sync.
- Set up a wireless network at the job site and sync with
the home office whenever desired.
Bluetooth3
No, that's not a reason to go see the dentist. Bluetooth
is used for short range, point-to-point wireless connections.
Great solution if you keep your QuickBooks file on your laptop
that you carry with you. Superintendents can sync over the
Bluetooth connection whenever they're within range. Wireless or pcmcia modem
Connect a modem card to the handheld and just dial
in directly to the host from virtually anywhere.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
The latest Pocket PC's make it easy to connect to
the company VPN. Once the VPN tunnel is established, Solstice
has no problem synchronizing through that connection.
